Weekly LP love: seven swans

There are just a select handful of artists that Jeremiah and I know we can ‘count on’ when it comes to their music and by that I mean we never worry about whats next from them. Sufjan Stevens is one at the top of that list. In my opinion, the guy doesn’t know how to write a bad song no matter what style he chooses. Seven Swans is the fourth album (now out of ten) to come from him. Delicate interweaving harmonies flowing over the unexpected melodies of banjos and acoustic guitars. Sufjans fragile voice is almost gut-wrenching. His lyrics, beautiful and spiritual at times, though for me, his music always feels spiritual whether the lyrical content is actually related or not. Seven Swans is a record that has never lost it touch over all these years. It’s your early morning half asleep album. It’s your ‘I am still awake and at 4am album.’ It is the one you listen to during that evening storm. It is painfully beautiful and quietly powerful.
