Weekly LP Love: Jacques Dutronc 1er

There is nothing better than 1960′s French garage rock with hip-shaking beats and ironic French lyrics fronted by a dapper, ultra-cool, blue-eyed young man. Jacques Dutronc’s 1966 debut pop album is full of songs that will have you shimmying across the wood floor. This is the very first album to come from the French 60′s pop icon, Françoise, and would contain the biggest hit of her career, “Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles.”  Her soft voice, innocent lyrics, and quiet beauty made her famous thoughout France and the rest of the world and she was deemed France’s Yeh-Yeh Girl of the 60′s. Here is what you need: 1 Cup whole milk 3 eggs 1 tsp.... Read The Rest →

Weekly LP love: histoire de melody Nelson

20120613-190624.jpg

Listed as one of the top 1000 recordings you should listen to before you die, French pop star extraordinaire, Serge Gainsbourg’s 1971 album Histoire De Melody Nelson is very much worthy of that list. The album’s mix of liberated guitar, funk style bass, near spoken word vocals, and swelling orchestrated string and choral arrangements by Jean-Claude Vannier who composed almost the entire music in collaboration with Gainsbourg for the album, have proven to be highly influential to artists such as Beck, Air, and Portishead. And all this music comes with... Read The Rest →
